Fishing Competition 2023

The Great Gorran Haven Fishing Competition 2023

Saturday 26th August 2023 saw the reintroduction of the Great Gorran Haven Fishing Competition, last held in 2019. This has been a great Harbour tradition over the years. There was a great turnout for the day with 14 Boats entering and 36 Anglers taking part. It was lovely to have 8 Junior entrants having a go. Our thanks to all the participants.

Conditions early on were promising, but a stiff North Westerly wind increased throughout the day making fishing conditions quite challenging. Despite this the intrepid anglers soldiered on and some hard won fish were landed and weighed in at the Great Cellars to enable the trophies in all 4 classes to be claimed. In the interests of conservation, we also introduced the option for catch and release this year with photos being accepted for the most species class. Eleven species were recorded on the day and despite the difficult conditions a good time was had by everyone.

The day raised £137 for the Harbour Trust to help with ongoing work to maintain our lovely Quay and Harbour. Details of the winners in each class and their photos are below.
