As many will have seen, either by being in the village or from viewing our webcam, Symons Construction with Karn Geoservices, both Cornish companies, have been on the quay this week. They have removed significant and interesting core samples by drilling down fourteen metres from the deck of the quay. This has revealed substantial aggregate infill to the quay as well as confirming a solid rock foundation.
This means that stainless steel rods, to tie in the end of the structure, can be anchored securely into the rock.
Following a report of this week’s assessment and analysis, the plan should continue from 19th October with substantial remedial work taking place. This will be conducted by Saxton Drilling Ltd under the auspices of Symons Construction.
As you will appreciate, with this scale of construction work, we shall need to close the quay for several weeks for safety reasons. This means that there will be no access, including for fishing, moorings and for jumping off the parapet! I’m sure that the fish, such as they are, will wait for you!
We know that you will be supportive of these measures as we aim to get the quay back into normal use as soon as possible. We will keep you up to date as work progresses.
