Event update – part 3 (Weds 8th July – 1 day to go!)

Hello,

With just a day to go, I’m pleased to share my final update before the ride which now takes place on Friday.

The weather conspired against me this week with Thursday looking thoroughly miserable. So, for both comfort and safety, I put the ride back a day with Friday looking much better. I’m sorry for the inconvenience that this will inevitably have caused.

Fundraising
Thank you again for your incredible support. When I drafted last week’s update, donations stood at £2,370. This past week the overall total has risen to approximately £3000 with the target of £3,250 well within reach.

As you may recall, my target is to raise £10 for every Kilometre ridden of the 325Km journey.  So, with a week to go, I’m 300km of the way there. Or put another way, I’m currently at West Taphouse and keen not to be left stranded there. Any extra support to help me home would be hugely appreciated…!

If you would like to offer your support and have not yet done so, there are various way to contribute:

  1. Via the Just Giving Page – Link Above
  2. A verbal / email pledge to Steve Williams, Secretary GHHT – secretary.ghht@gmail.com
  3. Tea & Cakes Friday 10th July – Why not join us at Beach Corner for Tea and Cakes (I SHOULD BE ARRIVING BY 7PM!)
  4. Join the ride from St Austell to Gorran Haven. It’d be great to have some support for the final few miles. (There’s currently half a dozen or so riders joining me at St Austell Roundabout (McDonalds Carpark) at 6pm for the ride home.

Training Update

The last week of training has gone well with one final long ride and a couple of short rides to keep the legs going. I’ve just checked the bike over and spotted a puncture which I must have picked up yesterday. A small piece of flint has cut the tyre and just pierced the inner tube on the front wheel, so some running repairs required tomorrow. Not exactly what I wanted to be doing 24 hours before the off, but better now than on route!

The Route (Picture at the bottom of this page)

No changes to the route shown below.  For anyone joining me from St Austell, we’ll travel via Pentewan valley, turn right at the top of Pentewan Hill and take the road past Heligan, through Gorran and down Bell Hill to Beach Corner.

If that’s for you and we haven’t yet spoken, just  drop me a note on hockingchris@me.com

Summary

Well that’s all; I just need to get on with it now I guess. I look forward to seeing a few familiar faces on Friday when I arrive, and I hope I don’t let the side down.
Thank you again for all the amazing support.

Best regards

Chris
